Your success depends on the support of other people

Here is the basic rule for winning success. Let’s mark it in the mind and remember it. The rule is: Success depends on the support of other people. The only hurdle between you and what you want to be is the support of other people. ~ David J. Schwartz

When I first went into business for myself and was spending 37-hour days (yes, it is possible) and even longer nights ramping up my executive search firm and tinkering with the business model, I realized what I was doing wasn’t just going to be my company.

The business I have created and led would never be where it is today without the employees, for one, but my advisors and family and friends, as well.  Without a network of people who can back you in ways that aren’t just financial, realizing your full business potential isn’t possible.

Whether it is money, might or charisma that helps you build your company’s eco-system, an organism cannot function with just one cell.

I have the loving support of my wife. I have a board of directors, or advisors, “been there people”…or whatever you choose to call them.  I have employees with a stake in the company’s success.

The late David J. Schwartz, a professor at Georgia State University, leading motivational expert and author of The Magic of Thinking Big, one put it simply:

Success depends on the support of other people.

Because without it, you are nothing.  Yet another lesson learned.
